Hospitality Dives Down The Rabbit Hole With ALICE

A topic that will undoubtedly come up a lot at HX: The Hotel Experience show this year will be "The Future of Hospitality." Truth be told the vast size of the Hospitality category allows for many routes to get to the future. However, a segment that continues to excite us is the technology side of things. When you peer into the rabbit hole of tech, you're bound to find some really exciting advancements happening with the guest experience.
For most of us, the story of Alice involves a wonderland of crazy characters, plots, and settings; creating a chaotic and maddening scenario.  But the ALICE we’re talking about is the exact inverse.  ALICE is a New York based hospitality technology start-up that helps hotels communicate with staff, concierge, and guests.
The advancements ALICE allows with the guest is unparalleled and finally creates a new way to order room service, call housekeeping, or even check in and out, all from an easy-to-use app.  This type of technology can take the place of old, dingy, corded phones in hotel rooms and allow guests to do everything they need from their very own smart phone.  Guests also can speak directly to a department, allowing for a greater ease of access, and less chance of miscommunication.
Along with the usefulness that ALICE provides to hotel guests, it also has applications that can be used for hotel staff.  Their app can be used for communicating with other staff members and even assigning tasks across departments, on the go.  Managers can also see what tasks are needing completion and who has been assigned to what tickets, increasing organization, and decreasing confusion.
In recent news, Expedia invested $26 Million into the start-up, making the hotel-booking website ALICE's the majority shareholder.  Expedia is also the sole investor in ALICE’s second round of investments.  Expedia’s recent growth and development strategy have been focused around purchasing other hospitality and travel businesses and startups like ALICE.
Overall, hotel technology is a business that is exploding, and advancement in hospitality tech is potentially the next step for traditional travel sites and hotels.  As technological upgrades continue to differentiate hotels and their brands, the importance of staying on top of advancements in technology seem more imperative than ever.  ALICE seems to be just the type of technology infusion the hospitality industry needs.
