Hotel Pools: A Trend of the Past?

We've taken a look at many recent trends in the industry as the younger generation looks for new and unique travel experiences. It is these trends, poolside and otherwise, that drive the exciting products and services on display at The Hotel Experience each year. But according to Hotel News Now, pools may no longer be a necessity to hotels.

Though it is still a core amenity for many across the world, they have become costly for hotels with minimal use by guests. In May 2012, government regulations required that all hotel pools and hot tubs must have a permanent wheelchair lift installed. Since this was put into place, along with less consumers looking to swim during their stay, many hotels have replaced them with areas that generate more traffic.

A middle ground for hotel pools exists, usually paired with poolside food and beverage services and entertainment, and also found at hotels where guests are booking for leisurely stays.
"The Westin Austin Downtown's award-winning rooftop pool, Azul, takes center stage amid the hotel's amenities/ But pairing the 21st-floor oasis with the inventive poolside F&B offerings and buzz-worthy events is what has truly pushed the spaces profit potential over the edge, hotel GM Kris Carlson said."
